EMPTY BOWL FUNDRAISER

We are happy to announce our 1st Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser. Students at the Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center are selling their beautiful handmade clay bowls to help stop world hunger. They know through their efforts they can make a difference, and you can too! For $15 you will receive a beautiful handmade clay bowl served with a warm meal inside. Proceeds will be used to help fund costs for next year’s Kids Café Program.

On January 15, 2009, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., we will all dine together in the Atrium of the Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center. After your meal enjoy the artwork, live entertainment and take your beautiful bowl home as a reminder of a wonderful evening and the difference you have made in the battle to fight to stop hunger.

Please join us, everyone in the community is welcome. Help our students make the world a better place for children in need.

Here’s some additional background information:

The Little Black Pearl Workshop
The mission of Little Black Pearl is to create opportunities for youth and adults to deepen their creative involvement through the arts, cultivate their entrepreneurial skills and use the arts as a means for economic empowerment and community transformation.

LBP works diligently to counter the challenges youth face by providing a safe environment, positive role models, rigorous program, skill development activities and other opportunities. Our 14-year history has successfully proven that it is possible to integrate art and entrepreneurship through real life application of talent, interest and skills. Little Black Pearl offers youth a safe environment open to exploring, expressing and challenging their ideas and feelings through art. The combination of art and business bring out innate talents and demonstrate to youth the value of their work. They learn lifelong skills; enhance their self-esteem and benefit from the sale of their art. A wide array of works of art created by youth in programs and workshops provided by Little Black Pearl are available for purchase through the Art and Design Center.

The Empty Bowls Project
The basic idea for The Empty Bowls Project is simple. Participants create ceramic bowls and serve a simple meal in the bowl. Guests select a bowl during the fundraiser and afterwards take it home as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world. In exchange for the meal and the bowl, the guest provides a minimum donation of $15.00 dollars. A portion of the funds raised will be donated to an organization that is currently fighting hunger and balance will be used to fund the Kids Café program for next year. We hope our guests realize that by participating in our Empty Bowls Fundraiser, they made a difference in the fight against world hunger, and they could choose to do so again.

KIDS CAFÉ
Money raised from our Empty Bowls Project will be donated to the Chase Kids Café. Chase Kids Café, a hip and relaxing environment for little Black Pearl participants provides a safe atmosphere where students ages 12-19 are able to explore art, youth leadership and health and wellness. Students are afforded the opportunity to complete school assignments and have access to health, nutrition and academic information via LBP's CTC lab and are provided nutriscious meals daily provided by the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
